Class of 1959 Presents Class Gift to GCHS

The GCHS Class of '59 celebrated their 40th Reunion in August, 1999 with a Friday night gathering, a Saturday tour of the school, a Saturday night dinner, and a Sunday brunch. As part of the festivities, class members contributed to a special 40th Reunion Class Gift Fund, using the money to honor deceased classmates, faculty and staff.

Organizers of the reunion, Lynda Jensen Thomas and Jane Quay Willey, made arrangements to have a flowering cherry tree planted in the school's Memorial Garden in memory of classmates Denise Noonan who died in 1956 and Alton Wagner who died in 1958. A concrete bench near the tree honors Class of '59 alumni who died after graduation.

A group of three flowering cherry trees, aptly named Trio of Trees, has also been planted to the right of the front of the school. A plaque on a nearby boulder indicates the trees were given by the Class of '59 in memory of (1) Irene and Kenneth Kent, (2) all deceased faculty and staff, and (3) in honor of all 1954-59 faculty and staff. Irene Kent was a math teacher in the 1950s who was close to the members of the Class of '59.
